How do I get a TPIN in Zambia?

A TPIN is your 10-digit Taxpayer Identification Number. You now need one for a bank account, employment, business, or vehicle and land transactions, not only if you owe tax [Income Tax Act, Cap. 323]. The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) issues TPINs for free; beware of unofficial agents charging you.

The quickest way is online. Go to portal.zra.org.zm (or use the TaxOnApp mobile app) and choose "Get a TPIN". Select your taxpayer type (individual, sole trader, partnership, company, or NGO), enter your name, NRC or passport number, address and contact details, and upload the required documents. For individuals, bring a copy of your NRC or passport and proof of address. For companies or businesses, bring your PACRA certificate and your directors' or partners' names and TPINs. Submit your application and you will usually receive your TPIN the same day. If you prefer to apply in person, take Form TPIN-1 to any ZRA office.

If your company was registered with PACRA after 2020, you may already have a TPIN. The ZRA and PACRA automatically link their systems, so your TPIN is issued without a separate ZRA application. Keep your contact details up to date with the ZRA, as outdated information may cause problems later when you need tax clearance or file returns.
